"I sold it for €20" doesn't mean "I made €20". To know whether you're profitable, you need to calculate your real margin, costs included.
The costs people forget
- The purchase price of the item (or its share of a bundle) — the biggest line for a reseller.
- Boosts and the showcase if you use them to sell faster.
- Shipping and fees, depending on who pays.
- Time — not an accounting cost, but very real: photos, listing, shipping.
The formula
Margin = amount received − purchase price − costs (boosts, shipping you pay). And the margin rate (margin ÷ sale price) tells you, at a glance, which items and which sources actually pay off.
The realization: by tracking margin by source (this bundle, this supplier), you quickly see what's profitable — and what to stop buying.
