New with tags, very good…: what condition really does to price (2.77M sales)

15 August 2026 · 5 min read

"New with tags", "very good condition", "good condition"… everyone fills in that field, nobody knows what it is worth. We measured the selling price of 2.77 million real July sales, condition by condition. The gap is much wider than you would think.

The figures

Declared conditionShare of salesMedian selling price3rd quartile
New with tags12.7%€14€30
New without tags18.2%€9€20
Very good54.2%€7€15
Good13.4%€5€12.90
Satisfactory1.7%€5€12

What it means

  • The tag alone is worth €5. A new item sells for €14 with its tag, €9 without: +55% for a piece of cardboard. If you buy clearance stock, never cut a tag off; if you thrift, a tagged piece is worth double a worn one in your buying maths.
  • The real cliff is between "new" and "worn". New with tags sells for double very good condition (€14 vs €7). Below that, the gaps tighten.
  • "Good" and "Satisfactory": same price. €5 median in both cases. Being honest about a flaw costs nothing in price — while an overstated condition costs a dispute, a refund and a negative review.
  • The high end widens the gap. At the 3rd quartile, new with tags reaches €30 against €15 for very good: the pricier the piece, the more condition matters.
The sourcing takeaway: at equal brand quality, a bale containing 20% new-with-tags pieces is not worth the same as a run-of-the-mill bale. Ask your wholesaler for the condition breakdown — it is one of the few pieces of information that converts directly into money.

The method

Sales detected on the French catalogue in July 2026, condition as declared by the seller at listing time, final selling price. Medians resist outliers: a few luxury pieces do not pull these figures up.

And in your shop?

These medians are the whole market's. The profitable question is yours: does your "very good" sell at €7 or at €12? Do your tagged pieces really sell for double? With the purchase price recorded in Fripilot, real margin per item and per source answers that question without a spreadsheet — and that is what should drive your next buys.
