October-December: preparing the 3 months that make a Vinted seller's year

26 September 2026 · 7 min read

For a second-hand seller, the year isn't played over twelve months but over three: October, November, December. Cold weather drives coat purchases, Black Friday puts everyone in bargain mode, and December turns buyers into gift hunters. What you prepare in late September, you harvest in Q4 — here is the plan.

October: the coat peak (and it's short)

The first real cold snap triggers a peak of coat, puffer and boot purchases that lasts a few weeks, not three months. The listings that benefit are those already online with accumulated favourites — not those published the day it hits 5°C. Concretely: all your winter stock should be photographed and listed before October 10th. It's the direct continuation of the autumn shift we measured in September (boots +41%, coats +21%).

November: Black Friday plays against you — play it differently

In late November, new retail slashes its prices: second-hand temporarily loses its number-one advantage. Two counters:

  • Brands that new retail never discounts (vintage pieces, premium brands, past editions) remain unbeatable — push them precisely that week.
  • Embrace bargain mode: it's THE week to clear your dormant items and bundles. Buyers are hunting; your clear-out has an audience it will never have again.

December: think gift, not garment

The December buyer isn't buying for themselves: they're looking for a gift. This changes everything: bags, scarves, jewellery, recognisable brands, "like new" items jump ahead of everyday clothing. Two golden rules: impeccable condition (nobody gifts a pilled jumper) and ship fast — after December 15th, every day of delay is a gift that won't arrive in time, and buyers know it: they filter for responsive sellers.

The postal pause: between December 20th and January 2nd, delays stretch and pick-up points overflow. Ship early, warn late buyers, and treat Christmas week as sourcing time — January, with new-year clear-outs, is the best buying month of the year.

Your late-September to-do

  • Winter sourcing now: coats, wool, boots — purchase prices rise with demand.
  • Photograph and list winter stock before October 10th.
  • Identify your "gift" pieces (brands, like-new, accessories) to push in December.
  • List the dormant items you'll clear during Black Friday week.
