How long to sell on Vinted? Stock rotation, the number nobody watches

An unsold garment costs nothing on Vinted — no listing fee, no digital rent. True in appearance, false in practice: every dormant item is locked-up cash, occupied space and a shop that looks frozen. Stock rotation is the least-watched and most revealing number of a second-hand shop.

What is a "normal" rotation?

On our own reselling business (several thousand items sold), the median time from purchase to sale is about 96 days — three months. The median hides a world: good pieces at the right price go in days, the tail drags for months. Two useful benchmarks:

• Median under 60 days: your sourcing and prices are well aligned with demand.
• Over 120 days: you're buying things the market doesn't want at your price — the problem is upstream, not "lack of visibility".

Dormant stock: give it an ultimatum

An item online for more than 4 months is very unlikely to sell as-is. Three exits, in order:

• Cut the price properly (−30%, not −10%): a small cut is invisible, a real one triggers the waiting favourites.
• Bundle it: three dormant items in the same size are worth more together than apart — and a bundle frees three hangers at once.
• Remove it from stock: donate or recycle. It feels like a loss; it's actually the end of a loss that was ongoing. The space and energy recovered are worth more than a hypothetical €4 sale.

Seasonality skews everything (both ways)

A coat listed in April isn't "dormant" — it's out of season. Before condemning an item, ask whether its season has passed or is coming: in September, a 5-month winter dormant might be your best October sale. The rule: judge rotation season against season.
